Pop Up project

Memory pockets

Today I started my Pop Up project. We were told to bring in a collection of objects that were somehow connected, considering colour, shape an texture that would give us inspiration for out technical blocks.

My collection of objects each have a provenance of their own. After going home for the weekend i wanted my collection to center around things that act as personal memory triggers. Each one of my objects represent a memory or something or someone and are things i have subconsciously kept to remind me of my life.

Most of my objects represent people or places ive been as a child so I cataloged them into little groups, or pockets of personal memories. Some are just singular objects that bring to light an entire part of my life or an entire person. To someone else my collection could look disjointed and random, but i look on the objects with a nostalgic fondness. Having said this, although the objects will hold no emotive response for an on looker, i think the objects are an eclectic and interesting array of things, a mix of natural, man made and broken objects that each have a ambiguity about them.

I experimented with different ways of drawing and what marks would represent the properties of my objects, considering the object's property and shape. It was very experimental and I liked about 2 out of the 100 drawings i created, but it has helped me consider layout of objects and design in different marks and textures. I need to make sure i continue to practice drawing the properties and textures of object as it something i find impossible to get my head around. Practice makes perfect!
